A 1785 Tartan Gown for Mrs Isabella MacTavish Fraser Edinburgh 2019

In 1785 Isabella MacTavish married Malcolm Fraser, and wore a stunning tartan gown for her wedding. The gown has been kept in the family since and has been worn by several brides in the family. The Gown is now displayed at Inverness Museum and Art Gallery. It is the only known pre-1800 tartan gown that has survived.

This recreation is based on images of the gown, and a robe l’anglaise pattern.
The costume consists of A pair of stays, a linen cap, a linen petticoat, a bumpad, a linen fichu, and an Airisaid and Gown made of Anderson of Ardbrake Modern Tartan.
